Dexter Construction Company is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently looking for Operations Supervisor to join our Quarry operations out of Sheet Harbour, NS. The Sheet Harbour Quarry is an expanding operation poised to supply growing offshore construction aggregate markets, with the Supervisor being a key part of the successful long- term development of the operation.
Job Summary:
The Operations Supervisor is responsible for the hands- on supervision of all activities that take place on the Sheet Harbour Quarry location. The Supervisor will oversee the work site, ensuring safety, efficient use of labour, machines, and materials by crews, and will report on such things as personnel, costs and safety for the quarry operations. This position will be responsible for the management of all on-site workers and enforcement of all required safety and work regulation policies. Leadership experience with pit, quarry, open pit mining operations are preferred.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Ensuring a safe work environment in full compliance with all safety policies and established procedures
- Ensuring alignment to Environmental Policy and operational procedures
- Work closely with the Production and Quality Control Teams to deliver high quality products and performance
- In conjunction with Management Team, provide site leadership regarding all aspects of quarry activities, production planning, inventory control, as well as manage short and long- term site development objectives
- Managing all site labour administration activities including payroll, timekeeping, labour coding, equipment coding, and safety reporting.
- Operation of equipment such as loaders, excavators, rock trucks, dozers, skid steers etc. to assist in the operations of the Quarry.
- Coordinate preventative maintenance, equipment fueling, and equipment repairs in conjunction with the Maintenance Team
- Protecting and promoting the interest of the company in all matters.
- Be attentive to community feedback and operational Best Practices
- Perform all other duties as required
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
- 5 plus years’ experience in civil construction or quarry, mining operations preferred
- Strong management, planning and leadership skills.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules, and code of conduct.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
- Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable
- Mechanically inclined
- Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Strong computer skills
Working Conditions:
This position will require lifting, pulling, and managing medium heavy (up to 55lbs) equipment and objects, requiring the use of PPE, Hardhat, and Steel Toe Boots to minimize the risk on the worksite.
