R3 Environmental Services, a division of The Municipal Group of Companies, is an environmental services company that provides soil and wastewater treatment in Nova Scotia. We are seeking the qualifications and expertise of an Operations Manager for our operations based out of Halifax, NS.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the General Manager, as Operations Manager you will oversee the efficient operation of all functions of a new Wastewater/Waste Oil Treatment Facility. A strategic thinker striving for excellence with customer service levels, employee engagement, and financial performance.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all Facility operations and employees ensuring effective supervision and support to meet performance standards.
  • Manage and coordinate daily activities, including wastewater/oil collection, staffing, plant operations and the maintenance of plant through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Lead financial management efforts, including the planning, administration and monitoring of the Facility budgets.
  • Ensure adherence to company safety programs and policies. Review and monitor all safety issues to implement corrective actions and ensure compliance with legislation and contract obligations.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager in the development of both short-term and long-term goals, policies, and objectives for the Facility. Lead the administration and implementation of action plans to meet or exceed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and budget forecasts.
  • Conduct various studies, self-audits, and investigations, and make recommendations for modifications to operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor productivity, trends, and efficiency, and implement changes for continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance department to ensure all operational equipment is properly maintained and available through timely preventative maintenance programs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a management or leadership role within a waste management, treatment, or a related industry preferred.
  • Combination of education and/or experience in Facility Management, Operations Management, or a related field.
  • Background in environmental services or operational management is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and communication.
  • Understanding of budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Ability to develop and manage capital budgets and monitor performance against financial targets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate challenges and proactively implement solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interface with senior leadership, customers, and employees.
  • Ability to build and sustain productive relationships with clients, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading safety programs and ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
