The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of heavy civil construction, mining, transportation, and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. As part of the Environmental Services division, we are currently seeking the qualifications and expertise of an Accountant based out of Lower Sackville, NS.
Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial analysis, as you will be responsible for completing month-end processes for multiple companies. You should have a keen eye for detail, with a strong interest in validating and cross-checking financial information to ensure accuracy. Proficiency in Excel, including its use for financial analysis and reporting, is essential. You will work closely with the Facility Controller, Waste Hauling Team Lead and other accounting team members. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and coordinate tasks are critical. A positive, professional approach to planning, scheduling, and communication is key to excelling in this role.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Validating revenue and expense details in multiple systems using excel
- Assist with AR billing, payroll, benefits, government remittances
- Prepare bank reconciliations
- Adhoc reporting and financial analysis
- Provide assistance/backup to payables & receipting staff, such as posting invoices / payments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
- Post-secondary education in accounting/finance or appropriate work experience in similar role
- Working towards a designation would be considered an asset
- Strong knowledge of accounting and controls
- Advanced skill in Excel, working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Superior organization and time management skills
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage several tasks at one time in a deadline driven environment
- Ability to work in a team environment or independently as required
- Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
