Dexter Construction Company is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently looking for Equipment Haulers to join our operations out of Bedford, NS for the 2024 season with opportunities for year-round employment.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Fleet supervisor, the Equipment Hauler is responsible for safe and efficient loading and unloading of heavy equipment at various locations. This position is also responsible for inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining the vehicle. This position is based out of Bedford, however, may involve travel to other parts of the province as the need arises.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
  • Ensure safe and proper loading and unloading of heavy equipment from various trailers.
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks.
  • Advise the fleet supervisor of any requirements for maintenance or repairs.
  • Be always aware of surroundings.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
  • Protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities.
  • Ensure the safety of fellow employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  • At least 3 years’ experience or more in a similar environment.
  • Class 3 License with Condition 15 and/or Class 1 License.
  • Experience with Float, Tag, Landoll and Flat deck trailers considered an asset.
  • Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules, and code of conduct.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly.
  • Working safely is a condition of employment.

Working Conditions:
The Equipment Hauler has a physically strenuous and demanding job. This position requires lifting, pulling, and managing heavy equipment and objects. This position will require the use of PPE, Hardhat, Steel Toe Boots, and reflective vest to minimize risk on the worksite. The worksite environment for this position is outside in varying weather conditions.
