Dexter Construction Company is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently looking for an Asphalt Superintendent to join our operations out of Wolfville, NS. This position will be based out of Wolfville but may involve travel to other parts of the province as the need arises.
Job Summary:
The Asphalt Superintendent is responsible for the supervision and management of all
asphalt operations out of Wolfville, including scheduling and forecasting work, asphalt equipment management, personnel management, project quality, cost and quantity tracking, and safety. The position will be a combination of site and office work and computer proficiency is required.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Planning and forecasting short- and long-term paving schedules
- Ensuring all jobs sites have the proper equipment for the scope of work of the project.
- Ensure paving is safely completed on time and within cost allowance.
- Ensuring a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task
- Coordinating and managing personnel
- Booking quality control requirements for projects and monitoring asphalt quality results
- Protecting and promoting the interest of the company in all matters
- Recruiting and retaining staff
- Any other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
- 3 years’ experience working in a construction environment in an asphalt role
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Quality control experience preferred.
- Engineering technologist certification preferred.
- Must be well versed in construction site protocols, rules and code of conduct.
- Strong management, delegation, planning and leadership skills.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
- Knowledge of technical asphalt and aggregate specifications
- Able to deal with people tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
