Halifax C & D Recycling Limited, based in Goodwood Nova Scotia, is a large, construction and debris recycling company and provides other environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking the qualifications and expertise of an Accountant based out of Goodwood, NS.

Job Summary:

The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting as you will be responsible for all functions detailed in “Primary Duties and Responsibilities” section below. You will work closely with the Facility Controller and Operations and must be able to prioritize, coordinate, and organize business tasks. You will have a positive, professional approach in planning, scheduling, communicating, and organizing the activities of your position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly journal entries, reconciliations, and financial working papers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Produce monthly financial statements & management reports supported by analysis and commentary in a timely manner
  • Adhoc reporting and financial analysis
  • Preparation of bank reconciliations
  • Reconcile items for the monthly billing process
  • Provide assistance, when needed, with payables & receipting processes
  • Track and maintain files related to capital expenditures
  • Reconcile and report daily incoming and outgoing tonnages received/shipped from facilities
  • Supporting and/or coordinating year end audit preparation and execution
  • Help with the annual budget process

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and controls
  • Knowledge of Sage 50 considered a strong asset
  • Advanced skill in Excel, working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Superior organization and time management skills
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage several tasks at one time in a deadline driven environment
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently as required
  • Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills
