Dexter Construction, part of The Municipal Group of Companies, based in Bedford Nova Scotia, is a large, diversified organization engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction, mining, and environmental services within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently seeking the expertise of a Dispatcher to join our team from our Scale House located at the Rocky Lake Quarry, Bedford, NS.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will be able to coordinate and efficiently expedite truck traffic through the scales. They will be able to organize the delivery of materials and ensure that truck requirements are met for both outside customers and internal jobs.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take orders for gravel and asphalt.
- Dispatch and weigh trucks.
- Organize trucks for tonne mile/hourly jobs as required.
- Answer questions on job costs and quantities.
- Arrange for prompt delivery of product.
- Give advice on material needs and quotes to homeowners and small contractors.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- A working knowledge of MS Office software, MS Word, Excel, and willingness to learn new programs
- Strong initiative and a positive ‘can do’ attitude
- Very enthusiastic and punctual
- A proven attention to detail and problem solving
- A strong commitment to quality
- The ability to learn quickly and be adaptable to change
- The ability to work well under pressure of deadlines
- Ability to work Saturdays as necessary
- Ability to perform a variety of manual tasks requiring the use of independent judgment and action
- Willingness to work in a team environment
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures
- Working safely is a condition of employment
- Must have a valid NS Drivers license
