Dexter Construction Company is a large, diversified Construction Company engaged in all major aspects of the heavy civil construction industry within the Atlantic Provinces. We are currently looking for a Production Coordinator to join our Quarry operations located in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Job Summary:

The Production Coordinator will assist the Quarry Superintendent in all aspects of production including but not limited to preventive maintenance, logistical planning, production support, inventory and asset management, monitoring performance and contributing to a Team committed to maintaining a safe work environment. The Production Coordinator will report directly to the Quarry Superintendent. Efficient delivery of production requirements, alignment to established Best Practices and clear lines of communication are critical tasks that must be performed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and coordination of production and maintenance schedules for maximum optimization of assets.
  • Work closely with the production Team to deliver high quality products and performance.
  • Track and measure mechanical component life cycles and operational effectiveness to identify production strengths and weaknesses.
  • Assist with day-to-day tasks both in the office and in the field. Provide support to the Quarry Superintendent in all aspects of quarry development, production planning, preventive maintenance and sourcing of crusher parts.
  • Actively participate in required safety deliverables and promote a positive safety culture
  • Support implementation of process improvement initiatives
  • Appropriately track production targets and assist with cost management to achieve budget compliance.
  • Assist in Capital Project scheduling and costing, including preparation of reports and regular updates, etc.
  • Order crusher parts and components through established processes to ensure inventory and key components are available as needed. Manage Manufacturer’s information for maximum return on investment.
  • Work closely with vendors and trades to ensure cost efficiency and quality management of production initiatives.
  • Communicate and collaborate with key members of the production Team to ensure optimal planning and best overall performance
  • Assist with planning, coordination and execution of assigned tasks in the field, including drilling, blasting and mobile equipment deployment.
  • Work closely with other MGOC departments to achieve established companywide goals.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  • Mechanical Technology or Construction Management program is preferred.
  • Experience in the Aggregate industry would be considered an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Ability to work as part of a production Team
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Professional attitude, punctual, assertive and personable
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
  • Ability to respond in pressure situations with a calm demeanor and high sense of urgency
  • Ability to work shift work if required
  • Utilizes strong organizational and planning skills
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Project, Outlook).

Working Conditions:

The Production Coordinator may be required to work long hours and use computers and other technologically advanced equipment. Field work will be a key attribute of this position. The use of PPE (Hardhat, Steel Toe Boots, reflective vest, respiratory protection, etc.) is mandatory. Other PPE might also be necessary. Other travel on behalf of the company may be necessary. Applicable training will be required and will be provided by the Company.
